Netlify no longer has overage fees on the free plan—hooray! No more surprise $100,000 bills!
If your app or site exceeds the Free plan limits for the month, it will be suspended for the remaining days in the calendar month. At any time you can reactivate your site in seconds by upgrading to a usage-based plan.
I'm definitely a little late to the party here but I figured I'd do my part in making the joyous news be heard.
I want to believe Netlify did this to compete with Vercel, who also added a budget limit. But whatever the reason, more platforms abandoning the old way of uncapped monthly bills is a net positive.
Hopefully as more shock bill incidents make waves on social media, budget limits (limits, not alerts) can become an industry standard. I'm looking at you, Firebase.
Serverless has a good business model. It just sucks that it has to be plagued with horror stories.
